1710réf. 482Dublin: University-Printers Boulter Grierson 1710. Contemporary Irish Rococo Gilt Framed Crushed Morocco. Good. Extra-illustrated Book of Common Prayer and New Version of the Psalms of David bound together in beautiful contemporary Irish Rococo Framed Crushed Morocco by the royal printer in Dublin Boulter Grierson during the Golden Age of Irish book binding. Overall condition: Fair to Good. Book of Common Prayer without title page textually complete. A few tears and paper defects. BINDING INFO Contemporary--to the 1759 Psalms of David-- Irish Rococo gilt-tooled frame black crushed morocco by royal printer and Dublin binder Boulter Grierson with his tell-tale use of a border with six-pointed stars within a double crescent moon double scalloped arches motif and boards with gilt-tooled frame binding featuring prominent repeating wide roll-tool borders. The prominent central crest pointing inward closely resembles a sunflower head or a thistle bloom complete with radiating seed pods/petals at the top and structured base leaves at the bottom. Directly between the sunflower stems sits a small sharp three-pronged leaf or fleur-de-lis elaborated variant used as to bridge the negative space. The continuous wavy line anchoring the base of the design is a crenellated or scalloped lace roll which unifies the individual hand-stamped elements into a cohesive frame. Outer triple gilt fillets frame the densely tooled ornate scene of golden extravagance. Typical of many fine Irish bindings from this period the central expanse of the leather is left entirely blank to showcase the high quality and rich dye of the leather. Spine with five raised compartments richly tooled and ruled in gilt with the characteristic hashmark 'X' pattern in each compartment typical of period Irish fine bindings. Horizontal swan roll devices along upper and lower band of the spine. All board tooled in gilt. Marbled endpapers. BOOK INFO Sammelband prayer book written in English. Octavo 7 5/8 in. x 5". Bound in contemporary Scottish cottage-roof period red-brown hue popular in the late 1600s and early 1700s fine morocco. The boards are a stunning and beautifully preserved example of early-Georgian decorative 'All Over' geometric gilt tooling from a high-end Scottish bindery. Each cover features repeating intersecting gilt circles and semicircles running down the vertical axis. The delicate gold tooling utilizes small pointillé dotted stamps inside the circular intersections framed with stylized floral roll-tools and corner sprigs to give it a rich dense texture. This central design is flanked by ornate stylized rosettes and fleur-de-lis devices. The main design is bordered with double gilt fillets and an outermost layer of triangular gilt paneling. The spine has four raised bands separating compartments richly tooled and ruled in gilt. All board edges tooled in gilt. All page edges gilt. Inner gilt dentelles and marbled endpapers.
