The history of the 6th Massachusetts in the Spanish-American War is unique in that its campaign was almost a bloodless one the absence of battles and the few months it was in the field rendering its experiences different in kind and degree from those regiments which were in the Civil War almost as many years and even for its sister regiments in Cuba in '98. And while the following account is written with a full appreciation of the seemingly insuramountable difficulties overcome by the War Department in an incredibly short space of time in addition to the necessary hardships of army life and it not intended in any sense as a "lament" there is that to record of interest not only to the regiment itself but to its friends." 1898réf. 112787Philadelphia: Globe Bible Publishing 1898. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7 in to 9 in Tall. Two great boks in one volume. Decorated hardcover no dust jacket. 569 pages. Illustrated. THE HISTORY of the world is largely a history of wars. Whether or not it is true that civilization gets forward upon a powder-cart it is undeniable that the powder-cart keeps well up with the procession. The present work is a record of two wars closely associated together and both making especially direct appeal to the sympathies of the American people. It was in a war that our own freedom and in- dependence were won. We cannot then regard with indifference the much longer and not less heroic struggles of Cuba for the same great bless- ings. They have been conducted almost within sight of our own shores and have materially affected our own interests. They cannot be forgotten while liberty is loved or valor appre- ciated. Neither can the story of them told as it is in this volume in hot blood directly from the field of suffering and strife and triumph be other than fascinating to the student or to the patriot. It had been the lot of this country to wage three great wars before the present. The first was for independence. The second was for sovereign rights in equality with all other nations. The third was for the preservation of the Union. All three were gloriously successful both in the triumph of our arms and in the establishment of the principles for which they were waged. réf. 022857New York: George E. Leefe Lithographer. Unbound. Good. no date perhaps circa 1850s/60s; Single sheet roughly 42 by 6 ¾ inches. Printed on a single side only. Presumably disbound from a book or pamphlet of some sort. A map depicting the straight line of the proposed Mississippi and Atlantic Railroad running from Terre Haute Indiana to Illinoistown Illinois now East St. Louis. Chartered in 1850 the Mississippi and Atlantic Railroad generated contentious debate among the people of Illinois with those in Southern Illinois and those in the Central and North opposed. The opposition hired Abraham Lincoln and other lawyers in a suit to stop the railroad that ultimately failed. Even though the Mississippi and Atlantic Railroad Corporation succeeded in court the railroad never came to fruition. This map depicts various towns along with rivers such as the Wabash and the Mississippi and the intersection of other railroads like the Illinois Central and the Ohio and Mississippi Railroads. Printed wraps. 145 7 pp. A few black and white illustrations throughout reprints of illustrations from issues of The Black Panther Party. The work cites the words of Black Panther Party leaders and ex-members and subtly seeks to tie the party to foreign groups communists seeking to overthrow the US government while ignoring the facts in some cases such as the murder of Fred Hampton that would portray the US government in a poor light. The report was issued by the Committee on Internal Security formerly known as the House of Un-American Activities Committee chaired by Richard Ichord a staunch anti-communist. GOOD condition. Minor to moderate toning some staining and minor soiling with light rusting to the staples. Minor creasing and wrinkling. Government printing Office unknown
