Incisione in rame (cm. 35x44,7 e ampi margini) .

Molto rara. In the upper center, in the cartouche, the title: IL VERO RITRATTO DI NETTUNO al presente occupato da gl’inperiali. Lower center the date 1557. Orientation given on the four sides, in the center, with the name of the winds: TRAMONTANA, HALF OF, LEVANTE, PONENTE; the North is at the bottom. Etching and engraving, printed on contemporary laid paper, with margins, in excellent condition. Exemple in the fourth state, of five, with the address of Hendrick van Schoel. Anonymous map without editorial indications - in its first drafts - dated 1557. The map, although centered on the city of Neptune, represented much enlarged and out of scale, describes the southern part of Lazio up to Monte Circeo and the Pontine Marshes. The work was produced on the occasion of the so-called Salt War (1556-57), when the armies of the viceroy of Naples, the Duke of Alba, invaded the southern part of the Papal States. Destombes attributes the plate to the printing house of Antonio Lafreri; the work is listed in the publisher's catalog (no. 81, as "Neptune"). However, it is also possible that this is a plate produced by Antonio Salamanca, whose plates merged into the Lafreri catalog after the union of the two printers. A proof of the plate is known, with only the city of Neptune outlined, preserved in the library of Dillingen. The second state of the plate, finished, is found in several sixteenth-century factitious collections; finally, the work was reprinted in 1602 by Giovanni Orlandi and then by Hendrick van Schoel after 1614. Extremely rare. Duisburg, 1589. Dall’ “Atlas”, parte II (Italiae, Sclavoniae, et Greciae tabulae geographicae”). Molto buono.
17066London: A Arrowsmith 10 Nov. 1807. First Edition. As issued. . Very good; some tape reinforcement on the verso of the extreme outer edge of blank margin along one vertical edge intermittent; small puncture in a blank portion of the sea on the map; extreme lower left corner of a blank margin torn away no loss. The map measures appx. 52 x 64 inches. It is in 2 sections 4 sheets; colored with two insets including a battle plan Battle of the Nile 1st Aug. 1798. The paper is watermarked 1804. Aaron Arrowsmith 1750-1823 was among the finest map engravers of his generation. After a move to London in 1770 he worked for William Faden and then John Cary Sr. in the early 1780s. He set up on his own in 1790 and over the next thirty years produced some of the most elegant maps of the era. He was known for the accuracy and the large scale of his maps - unique to his firm. They were expensive to produce. The map offered here shows the Nile Delta from the Mediterranean to somewhat above Cairo then east to Suez. The map was published just after the failed Alexandrian Expedition a major operation during the Anglo-Turkish War of 1807-1809. In September of 1806 the British sent a naval force under the command of Alexander Mackenzie-Fraser to secure Alexandria as a base from which to conduct operations against the Ottomans and French. Although initially met with little resistance in short order the British forces met stiff Egyptian counteraction. By the end of September they were forced to leave Alexandria. The geographical information for the map of Lower Egypt came from Sir Alexander Bryce of the Royal Engineers d.1832. Detailed notes describe the condition of canals roads and navigation of the Nile River. DNB I 595-596; Worms / Baynton-Williams 25-26. A Arrowsmith unknown books

1928Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original wrappers. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 83 p. Chipped on extremities of pages and cover, minor stains on edges. Otherwise a good copy. First and only edition of this first work in book form on Baku and Azerbaijani oil. After the occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the Red Army, many Azerbaijani intellectuals such as Mehmed Emin Resûlzâde (1884-1955) sought refuge in Turkey, established a publishing house called "Milli Azerbaycan Nesriyâti" [i.e. National Azerbaijan Publication] in 1928, Istanbul, and to make the voice of Azerbaijanis heard in exile to influence world public opinion. This book was published as the 9th publication of this publishing house. It was printed in Orhaniye Printing house in 1928 and was actually composed of the articles written by the author in the "Azeri-Turk" magazine. The first article appeared in the issue dated 15 August 1928, with other articles following it. The book, in which Mehmed Emin Rasülzade also penned a presentation, consists of the chapters: The Role of Oil in the World War, Azerbaijan at the Genoa Conference, Azerbaijan at the Hague Conference, the American Rivalry in Britain, A Common Front against the Bolsheviks, the Pursuits of the Oil Competition. Compiled from Mehdiyev's articles, is not only a propaganda work against the Russian occupation but also the first in-depth work written on Baku and Azerbaijan oil. Many sources in the text are referenced in footnotes. Mehdiyev says that world politics is shaped by the economy and oil is the most important factor in this context. In addition to expressing how important it is for the First World War, he also makes predictions about how oil will shape world politics in the future. According to Mehdiyev, whoever dominates the world's oil reserves will be the strongest state in the world. Based on M. Fanning, Mehdiyev states that Azerbaijani and Baku oil has an estimated 8 million barrels of resource rather than Mexican, American, Turkish, and Iranian oil. (cm. 20,5x17,5). In basso a sinistra, entro cartiglio, dedica all’Em.mo e Rev.mo Principe il Sig.
In basso a destra troviamo l’imprint editoriale: Appresso Donato Bertelli. At the top, along the upper margin and printed in block letters, is the title LA GRAN CITTA DEL CAIRO. At the bottom we read: Descrittione d'i nomi della Città del Cairo. Follows a numerical legend of 54 references to places and monuments placed on six columns. At lower right is the editorial imprint: Appresso Donato Bertelli. Orientation in the four sides to the center with the names of the winds: TRAMONTANA, LEVANTE, PONENTE, while not indicated the southern wind. The north is on the left. Perspective bird's eye plan, undated, published by the typography of Donato Bertelli. This is a derivation of the work attributed to Ferrando Bertelli (1568), in turn based on the larger one by Zorzi-Pagano, to which the orientation is added. In 1549 Matteo Pagano, in collaboration with the painter and cartographer Giovanni Domenico Zorzi, produced a large map of Cairo, consisting of twenty-one silographic blocks. The perspective adopted, oblique from above, called "bird's eye", follows the Renaissance tradition of the representation of cities. The format is horizontal, with the city seen from the west bank of the Nile. Both individual areas and monuments of the city are clearly indicated, such as the Azbakiya district, the Bab Zuwayla gate, the aqueduct and main streets, Old Cairo, developed around the Babylon fortress, the Giza tower, the famous Pyramids, and the Sphinx in female likeness. Some examples of this perspective plant are included in the collection Le vere imagini et descritioni delle piu nobili città del mondo, published in Venice by Donato Bertelli in 1569. Still others are included in sixteenth-century factual collections of larger format. “In absolute competition with the collections of Forlani and Ferrando Bertelli, was published in Venice, again edited by Donato Bertelli in 1569, the collection Le vere imagini et descritioni delle più nobilli città del mondo. Verae illustrissimae cuiusque urbis imagines nunc prim[um] typis impressae. Venetiis, Apud Donatum Bertellii to signum divii Marci MDLXIX. Like Ferrando's, the work contains an engraved allegorical frontispiece, with a bilingual title in Italian and Latin, and a dedication to Iohan Jacob Fugger von Kirhberg (1514-1575), a German banker and patron of the arts: Illustri, ac generoso heroi d. Ioanni Iacobo Fuggero Kirchbergae, Weissenhorni, et c. domino caesareae maiestatis consiliario dicatae. The collection, which was reprinted in 1574 and again in 1578, includes the title and 21 plans or views of cities. It is, therefore, only a selection focused on the main cities, represented by tables derived from the "Primo Libro", already replicated in the Civitatum aliquot insigniorum et locorum of 1568. Images of Hungarian fortified cities and minor places are excluded, in a sort of elitist product, less innovative but more accurate from the graphic point of view. Valerio (cf. Piante e vedute di Napoli dal 1486 al 1599, 1998, p. 45) describes the copy preserved at the Jerome & Ann Fisher Fine Arts Library of the University of Pennsylvania [711.4 B486], dated 1569, and the reprint of 1578 preserved at the Public Library of New York. Both differ in content and arrangement of plates from the one preserved at the Angelica Library in Rome [BB-12-9] and the one at Stanford University, both of which bear the date 1578. The only common element in all editions is the presence of the plan of Venice (as the first plate. It is not uncommon to find Bertelli's plates preserved in large-format factual collections: in the collection of the Universiteto Biblioteka of Vilnius (cf. Dzikowski, Katalog atlasów Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej Stefana Batorego, 1940) almost all the plates that make up the collection are present, as well as in the so-called "Atlas Aragon" (preserved in an anonymous private American collection and of which we have been able to obtain images). Numerous plates are present in the collection of the Bertarelli Collection [VOL EE 46 (1-240)], preserved at t...
