The very scarce second thousand of Charles Darwin's illustrated study of plant movement and response to external stimuli. The very scarce second thousand of Charles Darwin's study on phototropism and other types of movement in plants. First published on the 6th November 1880 and quickly selling out its first 1500 copies this second thousand was published within two months of the first.Authored with the assistance of Darwin's son botanist Francis Darwin the work concerns itself with how plants respond to external stimuli examining these processes in individual plants to gain understanding of general principles governing their growth and life. Charles Darwin collaborated with his son Francis on this book which closely examines a variety of plant processes in order to derive universally-applicable facts about their behaviour. It develops Darwin's earlier work on evolution and identifies key features of plants that have enabled them to adapt to different environments. paperback
