‎Die Ausgabe vereinigt die zwei wichtigsten altertumskundlichen Abhandlungen Stuckis. Die erste (Antiquitatum convivialium libri III) handelt von den Gastmählern und Tischsitten der Antike. "Stucki names nearly five hundred Greek, Hebrew, Arab, and Latin authors, whose works he claims to have read in order to present to his readers a true picture of the table manners and feeding habits of the Ancient Greeks, Romans, Jews, Egyptians, Persians, and others" (Simon). Die zweite Abhandlung (Sacrorum sacrificiorumque gentilium descriptio) betrifft die antiken Religionsgebräuche. Beide Abhandlungen wurden so sehr geschätzt, daß noch 100 Jahre nach ihrem ersten Erscheinen (1582 bzw. 1598) "eine neue (die vorliegende) stattliche Ausgabe in Folio veranstaltet wurde" (ADB XXXVI, 720). Der aus einer Zürcher Patrizierfamilie stammende Stucki (1521-1607) hatte eine sehr gründliche Ausbildung genossen, in deren Verlauf er mit den bedeutendsten Humanisten seiner Zeit in Verbindung trat. Er selbst lehrte an dem von Zwingli begründeten theologisch-humanistischen Institut des Collegium Carolinum in Zürich. - Exemplar mit dem Supralibros der Edinburgher 'Society of the Writers to the Signet' auf beiden Deckeln u. mit kleinem gestochenen Wappen-Exlibris von The Honourable Wm.
