ill., br. Alla vigilia della campagna militare in Etiopia, nel 1935, l'Italia distaccò una sparuta Sezione Africa orientale del Servizio informazioni. Quando entrò in guerra, nel 1940, disponeva di quattro Servizi segreti militari centrali: uno per ogni arma (SIM, SIS e SIA) più un apparato di Controspionaggio autonomo (CSMSS). Parallelamente operavano una polizia politica dalla sigla controversa (OVRA) e un misterioso Servizio segreto riservato presso la presidenza del Consiglio dei ministri (SSRCM). Ciononostante molte operazioni segrete militari italiane durante la Seconda guerra mondiale sono avvolte dal mistero. La maggior parte dei documenti sono scomparsi, in parte distrutti dopo l'armistizio e in parte sottratti da mani ignote. Solo una discutibile memorialistica del dopoguerra, affidata a libri e riviste ormai introvabili, ne segnala l'esistenza. Alla luce di recenti studi - condotti in archivi nazionali ed esteri che hanno declassato i documenti "top secret" - è possibile ricostruire e confermare con attendibilità il percorso di straordinarie "avventure" di cui si resero protagonisti gli 007 italiani. Attraverso storie inverosimili e gustosi aneddoti assurgono agli onori gli "uomini ombra" del Bel Paese che si batterono con coraggio, nonostante le avverse condizioni e i modesti mezzi a disposizione. Scoprirono di tutto. Svelarono intrighi internazionali, acciuffarono spie insospettabili e usarono la macchina cifrante Enigma in modo originale. Ebbero cognizione del radar adoperato dai britannici. Riuscirono, già nel 1941, a scoprire che gli Stati Uniti avevano in progetto di costruire la bomba atomica (e dovei) e persino quali sarebbero stati gli obiettivi degli sbarchi alleati in Italia con quasi un anno di anticipo. Tutto ciò senza "licenza di uccidere", ovviamente.

Note di un viaggio di circumnavigazione (1871-1873)
ril. Il 25 aprile 1871 la pirocorvetta della Regia Marina Vettor Pisani salpava da Venezia per compiere una circumnavigazione completa del globo. Nel corso della traversata, durata più di tre anni, l'imbarcazione a vela e motore attraversava una quarantina di porti, portando la bandiera italiana dapprima in Medio Oriente, poi nel Mar Rosso e nell'Oceano Indiano. Quindi proseguiva verso il Giappone, poi in Cina e nelle Isole Filippine. Si diresse ancora verso le Marianne, lo stretto di Torres, i Tropici del Cancro e infine in Australia e Nuova Zelanda. Fra l'equipaggio vi era un giovane medico siciliano, Stefano Accardi, di Santa Ninfa, in provincia di Trapani, che nel corso di quell'avventura decise di raccontare tutte le sue osservazioni sui luoghi e i popoli che andava incontrando. Nella copia conservata a Palermo, presso la biblioteca del Museo Pitrè, è riportata una scritta autografa che così recita: In segno di ossequio offre l'Autore, attualmente imbarcato sulla Regia Nave Città di Genova in Spezia. La dedica, rivolta a Giuseppe Pitrè, testimonia il rapporto di stima e amicizia, fra l'Autore, giovane ufficiale di marina, e il noto demologo palermitano.

La Sardegna nella Grande Guerra

È nota la fondamentale importanza che la Grande Guerra ha avuto nella storia della Sardegna contemporanea, in primo luogo per il grande tributo di sangue e di mobilitati offerto dall'Isola alla causa nazionale: sui 870.000 abitanti che annoverava allora l'Isola, i mobilitati furono 98.142, ossia il 12% circa della popolazione complessiva, mentre i caduti e i dispersi furono circa 18.000, oltre il 17% dei richiamati e il 2% dell'intera popolazione. Al di là del grande tributo di sangue, non meno significative furono le conseguenze politiche, culturali e identitarie che la Grande Guerra determinò nella coscienza collettiva del popolo sardo. Il dopoguerra, anche in virtù delle gesta eroiche dei suoi soldati, in particolare dei fanti della Brigata Sassari, segnò in modo irreversibile la coscienza identitaria sarda. La partecipazione alla guerra aveva consolidato la maturazione di una profonda coscienza autonomistica nei confronti dello Stato centralizzato, che si era comportato nei confronti della Sardegna come colonizzatore. Tale coscienza, che il ventennio fascista non riuscì a scalfire, rivive nello Stato repubblicano come patrimonio condiviso di tutte le forze politiche. La coscienza autonomistica maturata nella Grande Guerra dalle masse contadine che avevano partecipato al conflitto costituisce il filo rosso della storia della Sardegna contemporanea, nel cui alveo la cultura identitaria e la politica regionale continuano a muoversi ancora oggi.

br. Elena Accati ci conduce in Valle Cervo, nel biellese, per farci rivivere, con garbo e delicatezza, gli avvenimenti accaduti durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Un ricordo fatto di memorie, riflessioni e leggende della sua terra amata, che rischierebbero di scomparire, a distanza di molti anni. Chi parla in prima persona è una bambina che, da un giorno all'altro, sotto i bombardamenti, abbandona la città assieme alla famiglia, per trasferirsi nella vecchia casa di Bariola, una frazione arroccata sulla montagna, nel comune di San Paolo Cervo. Gli episodi narrati sono arricchiti dal racconto di testimoni e protagonisti: da alcune famiglie di ebrei sfuggite alla deportazione grazie alla generosità dei valit, ai profughi neozelandesi, che in Valle hanno trovato un rifugio, alle operaie delle fabbriche tessili, divenute staffette partigiane. Il libro, che si snoda attraverso dodici capitoli ed è arricchito da appendici su diversi aspetti della seconda guerra mondiale nel biellese, regala pagine piacevoli, ricche di suggestioni ed emozioni.
