‎HALEVY Daniel‎

‎Pays parisiens‎

‎HALIDE NUSRET ZORLUTUNA, (Turkish female poet), (1901-1984).‎

‎Autograph notes prepared for Behçet Kemal Çaglar's radio conference by Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, titled "Urfa".‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph 7-paged notes by Turkish poetess Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, (1901-1984). 28x11 cm. Some pages different sizes. 7 p. In Ottoman script entirely. It starts as 'Azîz dinleyicilerim!', and she asks the listeners 'do you like Urfa?'. A sketch and a draft text of an enthusiastic and nationalist speech on Urfa prepared for Behçet Kemal Çaglar's radio program. Zorlutuna was a Turkish female poet. She is referred to as "the mother of women writers". She has syllabic poems and novels written in basic spoken Turkish. She is the mother of novelist Emine Isinsu, elder sister of writer Ismet Kür (1916-2013), and aunt of writer Pinar Kür.‎

‎HALIDE NUSRET ZORLUTUNA, (Turkish female poet), (1901-1984).‎

‎Autograph poem signed 'Halide Nusret Zorlutuna' titled 'Kerkük'e gazel'.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph poem signed by Halide Nusret Zorlutuna. 23,521 cm. In Ottoman script. 17 lines. Some corrections. 1 p. Zorlutuna was a Turkish female poet. She is referred to as "the mother of women writers". She has syllabic poems and novels written in basic spoken Turkish. She is the mother of novelist Emine Isinsu, elder sister of writer Ismet Kür (1916-2013), and aunt of writer Pinar Kür. This manuscript probably has an early sketch of her poem titled 'Kerkük'e gazel' [i.e. Ghazal to Kirkuk]. It has a few differences of the poem's last form. It is known that she lived in Kirkuk with her officer father for a while and she loved this city, where a large number of Turcomans lived. An annotation on the bottom of the paper with two lines including an emotional inscription to her brother who passed away while he was in Kirkuk and to her other relatives and friends. Under the annotation a signature: 'H. N. Z.'.‎

‎HALIL ETHEM [ELDEM], (Turkish archaeologist and the director of Müze-i Humayun, son of Sadrazam Ibrahim Edhem Pasha, brother of painter and archaeologist Osman Hamdi), (1861-1938).‎

‎Autograph document / letter signed 'Halil', addressed to Köprülüzâde [Mehmed] Fuad, (1890-1966), requesting the return of books (listed on letter) borrowed from the museum's library.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter/document signed by Halil Edhem Eldem as the director of Müze-yi Humâyûn [i.e. The first Ottoman / Turkish Archaeological Museum] sent to Mehmed Fuaad Köprülü, (1890-1966), requesting the return of books (listed on letter) borrowed from the museum's library. 35x21 cm. In Ottoman script. Includes 10 lines. Water stain on a big area on the paper. The script is fine and legible. A couple of punch-holes on the left side. Otherwise a good paper. Mentioned books are written at the beginning of the letter as a list: 1. Mongol history in French. 2. Jornal Azbatin (?). 3. Hun tarihi [i.e. History of Huns]. 4. A manuscript on the Ottoman geography. An interesting and rare manuscript. Halil Bey is an important figure in Turkish cultural history who operated in the late Ottoman period and the beginning of the Republic period. As he was the head of the Asari Atîka Museum, he was mostly interested in ancient works, but also worked on Turkish-Islamic inscriptions and coins. Halil Bey, who made important contributions to the development of Turkish museums, made efforts to collect and publish hundreds of inscriptions in Anatolia and to protect and restore Turkish architectural works.‎

‎HALIL RIFAT PASHA, (Ottoman statesman and Grand Vizier), (1820-1901).; MUSTAFA ZEKI PASHA, (Grand master and Commander of Artillery), (1849-1914).‎

‎[CELEBRATION for ACHIEVEMENTS in the GRECO-TURCO WAR 1897] [An autograph letter signed 'Sadrazam Rifat' to 'Mustafa Zeki Pasa'].‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter signed 'Sadrazam Rifat' sent to Tophâne-i Âmire müsiri Mustafa Zeki Pasa [i.e. Grand master of Turkish artillery]. 38x24 cm. In Ottoman script. Folded. 1 p. It's an official celebration for Mustafa Zeki Pasha's achievements in the Turco-Greco War in 1897-1898. It's written in a beautiful riq'a script. Halil Rifat Pasha was an Ottoman statesman and a Grand Vizier for six years between 1895 until his death in 1901, during the reign of Abdul Hamid II. He was born in Serres (Serez) and received education in an Islamic type parish school in Salonica (Selanik), then continued to Mekteb-i Mülkiye in Constantinople. After his education years, he started to work as a mailing clerk in Vidin, then worked as secretary in the office of the Governor of Salonica. He advanced by degrees and was appointed to higher official positions by passage of time, including at Rustchuk. In 1882 he was appointed as mutasarrif of Vidin, then in 1886 he was appointed as governor of Sivas, where he started a road-building programme. He was subsequently appointed governor of Aidin (1889) and later of Monastir, where he fought brigandage units which was rife in the province. He was appointed as minister of internal affairs in 1893 . Then he was appointed as grand vizier in November 1895 . The most important events in his era as grand vizier were the riots of Sason (in 1895) and in Crete (in 1897), as well as the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 which ended with Ottoman victory. His motto in the road building campaign was "Any place where you can't go is not yours"! (Gidemedigin yer senin degildir!). Zeki Pasha was one of the most trusted Ottoman generals and statesmen of the Sultan Abdulhamid II. He served as Tophane Counselor for 18 years during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II. In 1899, Italian architect Alexandre Vallaury built the 'Tophane Müsiri Zeki Pasa Mansion (Yali)', one of the most valuable estates of Istanbul, on his behalf. In 1908, he fell out of favor with the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy by Union and Progress Society (Ittihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti) and was deported first to Büyükada and then to Rhodes. (Source: Wikipedia). Slightly chipped. A very good manuscript paper.‎

‎HALL Fitch 1759 1841‎

‎Autograph Letter Signed‎

‎Businessman son of reknowned Medford Massachusetts rum manufacturer Benjamin Hall 1731-1817 who "more than any other individual brought Medford to its first great period of prosperity 1750-1800 and daringly led the small community through the perils of the Revolution" almost bankrupting himself in the process. Fascinating ALS 2pp integral address leaf 8" X 9" New York NY 1797 April 27. Addressed to his father Benjamin Hall 1731-1817. Very good. Mild overall age toning more to outer address panel. Intriguing letter regarding some unnamed "great discovery." Reads in part: ".it is thought a great discovery both there Philadelphia & here I had an application for the right in some of the Western Counties in Virginia. I have also had some applications here but I have concluded not to dispose of any part of it until it is brought to perfection the more I reflect on it the better I think of it." Goes on to discuss difficulties with a Mr. Brasher apparently an investor owing Hall five thousand dollars. "I suppose that Cash might be rais'd here from the patent but it must be by making a great sacrifice the person who advancing would expect a certain proportion of the patent which nothing but absolute necessity would induce me to do" -- and here Hall's ultimate sales pitch -- "I am willing to sell a proportion to you which shall be equal to your advances & which shall be a very handsome profit. if you do not think the patent an object I will put security into your hands to the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars." It seems likely that Fitch Hall was an early and enthusiastic capitalist promoting the steam engine of SAMUEL MOREY 1762-1843 the American inventor who constructed some of the earliest steam propelled ships and in 1795 was issued a patent for a steam engine. In 1797 Morey built a craft in New Jersey that placed a paddle wheel on each side of the boat. This boat was exhibited in Philadelphia where Fitch Hall had just been visiting before writing his father "I arriv'd here from Philadelphia on Saturday Evening" this letter opens. According to one source "arrangements were made with certain capitalists for the construction and practical operation of large steamboats but financial distress overtook those interested before they could execute their plans." Fitch Hall it is our belief was one of those very capitalists and this letter represents a rare glimpse into one of the earliest fundraising efforts for Samuel Morey's steamboat. Most unusual and interesting. unknown‎

‎8vo. 3 pp. on bifolium. To a colleague, granting permission to have engraved a sketch he made of a skeleton at Madrid's natural history museum: "Having learned from my Brother that you wish to have an engraving made from the sketch I brought yesterday evening to the Geological Society, I take the opportunity of mentioning that it gives me much pleasure to be informed that you think it worthy of such attention. I have only to regret the want of leisure on the spot, to make a more careful drawing, and to add some measurements. So far, however, as it goes, I feel pretty confident of the accuracy of the sketch. The skeleton stands in the Cabinet of Natural History at Madrid, and is said there to have been brought from Buenos Ayres, where it was found in a bed of gravel. How far these facts are correct, I had little means of ascertaining. The people of the Museum seemed at a loss what name to give the skeleton: in the mean time the sketch is quite at your service [...]". - With a postscript by his brother: "My brother seems unwilling that his name should appear on the plate, & as it can be of no consequence, I beg you will leave it out. You can put what title you like to it. I should like to have 20 copies [...]". - Small tear to the lower margin of the second leaf. A slim strip of paper glued to the upper margin; 3 strips of old mounting tape on verso.‎

‎HALLAM Henry 1777 1859‎

‎Autograph Letter Signed‎

‎This renowned English historian is remembered for "The View of the State of Europe during the Middle Ages" 1818 "The Constitutional History of England" 1827 and "Introduction to the Literature of Europe in the 15th 16th and 17th Centuries" 1838-39; his son Arthur died in 1833 at age 22 and is immortalized in Tennyson's book-length 1850 poem "In Memoriam A.H.H." ALS 2pp recto and verso 4" X 7" London "24 Wilton Crescent" 1842 February 5. Addressed to "My dear Sir." Very good. Faint mounting trace. Interesting content almost certainly concerning Matthew Arnold's father Thomas Arnold 1795-1842 and his just-published "Sermons: Christian Life Its Hopes Fears and Close." Writes Hallam in part: "I return you Dr Arnold's Sermons with many thanks. They show all that characteristic independence of mind which almost amounts to originality & perhaps does produce an original component in the Dr himself though no one idea may be absolutely novel. It appears to me he has taken very good ground in his arguments against the school but not the most popular ground." Four months after Hallam wrote this Arnold died at the age of 46. Boldly penned in Hallam's usual less-than-legible scrawl. An excellent content example. unknown‎

‎Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U. Sigmaringen, 15. I. 1957.‎

‎1 S. 4to. Mit ms. adr. Kuvert.

- Gefaltet. - Hallenstein debütierte in seiner Geburtsstadt Frankfurt a.
