Captioned in German. Contemporary half calf with giltstamped spine and spine-title. Marbled endpapers. Luxury edition of the famous military costume series. A nearly complete run of the German and Austrian uniforms from the monumental artistic collection showing the armies of Europe. Vividly and brightly coloured, the splendid plates display costumes as well as characteristic scenes of army life, frequently featuring idyllic scenery or battle scenes in the background. The present volumes include uniforms from Austria, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Braunschweig, Nassau, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Baden and other states. - The work was originally published in 48 issues comprising 8 plates each, resulting in a total of 384 plates. During the long period of publication, several plates were revised and adapted; many were published in different versions, and more than 425 known plates in total. - Calf somewhat rubbed, occasional light browning. Plates are crisp and clean. Additional title-page of the "Sämmtliche Truppen" series supplied in photocopy in volume I. Contemporary ownership on the title-page overpasted. En 1883, Osman Hamdi Bey et Osgan Efendi publiaient Le tumulus de Nemroud-Dagh. Voyage, description, inscriptions avec plans et photographies, qui rendait compte de leur expédition au tumulus d'Antiochus Ier de Commagène. A l'occasion du centenaire de la disparition d'Osman Hamdi Bey en 1910, Edhem Eldem, professeur d'histoire à l'Université de Bogaziçi, reprend le récit de cette première mission archéologique ottomane, en se fondant sur le carnet de voyage tenu par Osgan Efendi et en y joignant quelque quatre-vingts photographies, prises lors de ce périple, et dont la moitié sont restées inédites jusqu'à ce jour. C'est ainsi l'occasion de découvrir le contexte d'une rivalité surprenante entre le Musée impérial, encore à ses débuts, et les archéologues européens, dans ce cas particulier, allemands ; mais ce texte et les images qui l'accompagnent constituent aussi un exemple flagrant de la vision orientaliste et quasi coloniale qu'avait de plus en plus l'élite ottomane de ces contrées reculées de l'empire. Le voyage à Nemrud Dagi est une occasion de saluer la mémoire de celui qui ouvra tant pour l'archéologie et le patrimoine ottomans et de se pencher sur la complexité et la richesse d'un personnage navigant constamment entre Orient et Occident. 'Le phenomene d'emprunt apparait comme la dimension la plus importante du contact des langue dans l'aire turco-arabo- persane. S'agissant des motifs de cet emprunt, on constate naturellement plusieurs facteurs : contact des peuples, echanges culturels et economiques, domination politique, besoins linguistiques, etc. La geographie du contact linguistique de cette aire s'etend donc du Moyen-Orient a l'Atlantique et qu'aucune langue se trouvant dans cet escape n'est epargnee par ce phenomene. Cependant, les langues qui sont les plus concernees sont les trois langues de la region : le turc, l'arabe et le persan. Etant donne qu'elles ont ete les trois langues dominantes de l'empire musulman, elles se sont mutuellement enrichies par la voie des emprunts, bien qu'elles appartiennent chacune a des familles linguistiques differentes. Cet ouvrage reunit les actes du colloque international qui s'est deroule a Istanbul les 2 et juin 2003, organise conjointement par l'Universite de Bogazici, l'Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), L'Institut Francais d'etudes Anatoliennes (IFEA) et l'Universite Technique de Yildiz'.
