RALEGH, Sir Walter
The Discoverie of the large and bewtiful Empire of Guiana, edited from the original text, with introduction, notes and appendixes of hitherto unpublished documents by V. T. Harlow
4to [25.5 x 20 cm]; [ii], cvi, 182, [i] pp, frontis (port), title vignette, 2 folding maps, facsimile of title page of original printing of 1596, index. original cloth, gilt lettering on front cover and spine, very clean and very fine condition. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. National Maritime Museum 290. Cox ii, p254. This is Ralegh's account of his 1595 expedition to the Orinoco delta and along the northern coast of South America. Harlow's extensive introduction sheds new light on Ralegh and shows, among other things, that his privateering activities were based on commercial considerations. This is a high quality reprint of the 1928 Argonaut Press edition, complete with all pages and maps.
