Jean Alfred Fournier (1832-1914), "great French venereologist" (Garrison-Morton 4800). When Hermanides published in 1903 his "Les affections parasyphilitiques" he dedicated the work to Fournier.

Jean Alfred Fournier (12 Marzo 1832 - 23 Dicembre 1914) dermatologo francese specializzato nello studio delle malattie veneree.Il suo principale contributo fu lo studio sulla sifilide congenita che descrisse nel 1883; nei suoi numerosi lavori sottolineò l'importanza della sifilide come causa di malattie degenerative. Fondò un'organizzazione chiamata Société Française de Prophylaxie Sanitaire et Morale. Ottimo.

Due parti in un volume di cm. 29, pp. xi (1) 269 (1) + 23 tavole incise in rame fuori testo ciascuna accompagnata da una carta di testo esplicativo. Solida leg. di fine '800 in mezza pelle, dorso a nervi con titoli e fregi in oro. Qualche segno d'usura al dorso, peraltro ottima copia, ad ampi margini e stampata su carta forte. Opera celebre e fondamentale nel campo della chirurgia dentistica. La presente edizione risulta la prima traduzione francese sull'originale inglese del 1803, rispetto alla quale viene aumentata di 10 tavole e che per certe aggiunte deve essere considerata in parte originale. Fox fu prevalentemente un pratico e si distinse per le sue ricerche nel campo della carie dentale giungendo ad affermare che la carie è prodotta dall'infiammazione dell'osso alla quale è possibile porre immediato rimedio. Cfr. Garrison-Morton (3679): "Fox classical treatise on the teeth is the first to include explicit directions for correcting dental irregularities"; Poletti p. 77 e Puschmann III, 385.

VII, 100 con 13 pregiate tavole incise in rame (una eseguita alla maniera nera) e 7 tavole esplicative di testo; le tavole sono f.t. e raffigurano con dettaglio l'anatomia buccale, le dentizioni decidue e permanenti nelle età evolutive dell'uomo e rispettive malocclusioni e patologie. Legatura in piena pelle ottocentesca, filetto in oro ai piatti, dorso a nervi, titolo su tassello in oro.<BR>Edizione originale (FIRST EDITION) della principale opera di Fox, la prima opera sull'ortodonzia, che include chiare spiegazioni su come correggere le irregolarità dei denti. Fox basò la sua opera su quella del suo maestro Hunter, autore nel 1771 di una simile opera. Fox influenzò l'odontoiatria e ortodonzia del XIX secolo e le sue opere furono spesso ristampate.<BR>Bell'esemplare marginoso con qualche fioritura, una cerniera restaurata, lievi abrasioni agli spigoli.<BR>Garrison Morton, 3679; Norman, 825: Fox discusses the major causes of malocclusion in the permanent teeth and described his method of correcting these by means of a fixed metal band and silk ligatures.
