réf. wx389Sébah & Joaillier Cartonné In-4 (36,5 x 31,5 cm), format à l'italienne, dos en cuir, percaline chagrinée sur les plats biseautés, titre et décor doré (tour de Galata et tour de Léandre) au premier plat dont les bords sont biseautés, croissant de lune et étoile entourés de lauriers dorés au quatrième plat, sans date (circa 1888), 10 photographies sur papier albuminé, montées à la manière d'un leporello sur des panneaux en carton fort de 34 x 30,5 cm reliés par un morceau de toile pour former un panorama d'Istanbul d'environ 3,47 mètres de long ; mors légèrement fendus en queue, quelques épidermures sur le cuir au dos et sur les bords du premier plat, quelques traces sur les plats, zones décolorées au quatrième plat dont le cartonnage est un peu incurvé, par ailleurs assez bel exemplaire. "Sultan Mehmed IV, remembered as Mehmed the Hunter because of his passion for hunting, departed for Edirne in 1657 on a hunting expedition with a large entourage in a display of imperial majesty that has been preserved for history as a visual document in the form of a series of oil paintings commissioned by Claes Rålamb, then the Swedish Ambassador to Istanbul. This almost cinematographic record consisting of a total of twenty paintings is preserved at the Nordiska Museet in Sweden. Sixteen of which returned to Istanbul, as the guests of the Pera Museum, nearly three hundred and fifty years after this event.".

1916Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original color map. 50x60 cm. In Ottoman script. Scale: 1/200000. Ottoman map of Eastern Anatolia. Bargiri, Hoy, Baskal'a, Malazgird. It shows Lake Erçek located on the east of Lake Van which is an endorheic salt lake in Van Province in eastern Turkey, about 30 kilometres; on north side, Bargiri place where the oldest district of Van city; on east, Turkish and Azerbaijani and Iranian borders and Hoy city of the West Azerbaijan; and on west, map shows Malazgird [Malazgirt]. This is one the serie of the Bonn projection maps which are the first map series in modern techniques in Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. In order to produce these maps covering Turkish territory, Reconnaissance Branch was incorporated into The Mapping Commission. The maps were produced in the datum based on the latitude and longitude of Ayasofya Mosque in equal area Bonn Projection. The field works for the 123 sheets covering the country were conducted by 76 staff. The production was completed in 18 years starting from east west. Field works continued without stopping except in years 1914 and 1920. This map series called also reconnaissance maps contributed a lot to producing 1:25.000 scale maps.

The exhibition was created by photographing more than 100 fountain decorations and ornamentations in Istanbul and reinterpreting them with the art of illumination and miniature by the workshop of 39 artists.

Salih Ozbaran focuses on a subject which has not been studied fully and accurately so far, i.e., the Ottoman expansion towards the Indian Ocean including the imperial conquests, organizations, exploitation of southern Arab lands and coastal African ports. He also examines the confrontations with native rulers, their communal organizations and the Portuguese seaborne forces in the 16th century. Ozbaran comes to the following should not be regarded as a 'linear process of development'; they did not practice the fief (timar) system in the southern provinces, but the method of tax-farming (iltizam) was developed in which yearly and quarterly paid officals and soldiers played an important role. He also empasizes that the Ottomans were not fully organized in keeping the permanent seamen and naval organizations in the provinces facing the Indian Ocean although they had strongholds in towns and in country firtresses with support of firearms.
