‎New New German Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Folio. (34 x 25 cm). In German. 112 p., 70 unnumbered color plates. Historische Anatolische Teppiche. Historical Anatolian carpets.

‎Türkçe Mâni elyazilari (Manichaika) C. I.: Khotço harabelerinde bulunup A. von Le Coq tarafindan tanitilan el yazilari. Translated into Turkish Fuat Köseraif.‎

‎Fine Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 46 p., [12] numerous b/w plates. Le Coq was a Prussian / German brewery owner and wine merchant, who at the age of 40 began to study archaeology. Aided by his wealth, von Le Coq became a famous archaeologist and explorer of Central Asia. Von Le Coq was convinced that the influence of Ancient Greece could be found as far in the east as China. However, organising expeditions to Central Asia and China was beyond his means. The German archaeologist Hermann Parzinger has found a letter in the Prussian State Archive which reveals that the financial backing to von Le Coq's expedition came from no one else than the last German emperor Wilhelm II. Wilhelm was obsessed with Greek culture and supported one of the expeditions with 32,000 German gold marks. Von Le Coq was associated with the Museum für Völkerkunde (now called the Ethnological Museum of Berlin) in Berlin. Serving as assistant to the head of the Museum, Professor Albert Grünwedel, Le Coq helped plan and organize expeditions into the regions of western Asia, specifically areas near the Silk Road such as Gaochang. When Grünwedel fell ill before the departure of the second expedition, Le Coq was assigned to lead it. His account of the second and third German Turpan expeditions was published in English in 1928 as Buried Treasures of Chinese Turkestan. The expeditions found extensive networks of Buddhist and Manichaean cave temples in the Xinjiang region of Northwest China. Although many of the manuscripts found in the cave were destroyed during the excavation, von Le Coq speculated that he had discovered a major Manichaean library. Some of the paintings also led him to believe that he had found evidence of an Aryan culture, related to the Franks. With the help of his assistants, Theodor Bartus, Le Coq carved and sawed away over 360 kilograms (or 305 cases) of artifacts, wall-carvings, and precious icons, which were subsequently shipped to the museum. In Buried Treasures ..., Le Coq defends these "borrowings" as a matter of necessity, citing the turbulent nature of Chinese Turkestan at the time of the expeditions. Chinese consider this seizure a "colonial rapacity" comparable to the taking of the Elgin Marbles or the Koh-i-Noor diamond. The artifacts were put on display at the museum and were open to the public until 1944 when the relics were destroyed in a British bombing raid during World War II. This Turkish translation of 'Manichaica aus Chotscho'.‎

Cultur and civilization traces belonging to the Uigur who they lived in today's Mongolia geography between the years of 744-840 is substantially important in the sense of Turkish history. Afterwards, the Uighurs using the system of runic in their earliest period developed Uighur writing that carried the traces of Manichaeism and was adopted from Sogd writing and they used it as formal writing. Scholars have been assuming a close historical and philological connection between the Tes, Terx and Sine Usu inscriptions of the Uighur steppe empire.‎

‎HÜSEYIN NAMIK ORKUN, (1902-1956).‎

‎Prens Kalyanamkara ve Papamkara hikâyesinin Uygurcasi.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish and Uighur. 118, [1] p. Prens Kalyanamkara ve Papamkara hikâyesinin Uygurcasi. First Edition. Having shown up at the stage of history since the VIth century Uyghur Turks gained their independence by putting an end to Kokturk rule in 744 A.D and established the Uyghur State (744-840 AD). Kutluk Bilge Kul Khagan is the first ruler of the Uyghur State whose capital city was Ordu-Balik. The Otuken (Steppe) Uyghur State was forced to disintegrate in 840 A.D with the siege of Ordu-Balik (Karabalgasun) by the Kirgizs and resulted in migrations to various places. One group of the Uyghurs who were forced to migrate arrived in northwestern China, established the Kansu Uyghur State and another group headed to the west and founded the Turfan Uyghur State where today's Eastern Turkestan is located. Several prosaic and poetic literary works that are produced in Old Uyghur Turkish between the IXth and XIth centuries of the history of Turkish language were written mainly about four religions. Those works belonging to the circle of Manicheism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam are classified under literary genres such as: kosuk, sudur, çatik, vinaya, abidarma. Tis texts is one of Buddhist peritexts, namely the Story of Prince Kalyanamkara and Papamkara in which the story of Buddha was embellished by extra-ordinary, fabulous events and is written in the form of "çatik". This manuscipt is preserved by the registration number Pelliot Chinois 3509 in Paris Bibliotheque Nationale. Being written in Old Uyghur Turkish, this text consists of 40 sheets some pages containing 7 lines and others containing 8 lines. Supposedly written in the 10th century, the manuscript has more than ten versions in four languages such as: Chinese, Sanskrit, Tibetan and Turkish. The first academic work on the manuscipt was done by Clement Huart in 1914. Having considered the work as deficient and erroneous, Paul Pelliot re-published the worked in the same year. (Source: In Terms of Literary Language Elements Story of Prince Kalyanamkara and Papamkara, EMINE TEMEL). Hüseyin Namik Orkun was a famous Turkish historian and linguist.‎

‎AHMED ADNAN SAYGUN, (1907-1991).‎

‎[INCI'S BOOK] [SHEET MUSIC] Inci'nin kitabi: Piano için 7 parça, Op. 10.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Paperback. Folio. (33 x 24,5 cm). In Turkish. 12 p. [SHEET MUSIC] Inci'nin kitabi: Piano için 7 parça, Op. 10. Turkish composer Adnan Saygun composed this set of children's pieces in 1934. The paper provides information about the developments in the field of music in the early years of the Republic of Turkey, first generation composers, called "The Turkish Five", including Ahmed Adnan Saygun. The score includes a page of commentary about the composer and work. Ahmet Adnan Saygun was a Turkish composer, musicologist and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey, his works show a mastery of Western musical practice, while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it, based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies, five operas, two piano concertos, concertos for violin, viola and cello, and a wide range of chamber and choral works. The Times called him "the grand old man of Turkish music, who was to his country what Jean Sibelius is to Finland, what Manuel de Falla is to Spain, and what Béla Bartók is to Hungary". Saygun was growing up in Turkey he witnessed radical changes in his country's politics and culture as the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had replaced the Ottoman Empire -which had ruled for nearly 600 years- with a new secular republic based on Western models and traditions. As Atatürk had created a new cultural identity for his people and newly founded nation, Saygun found his role in developing what Atatürk had begun. It's a symphonic arrangement.
