Grosclaude annonce la couleur dès la préface : “La France produit-elle encore des hommes ? On s’évertue à nous persuader qu’il n’en est rien. Ce sont, bien entendu, les Français qui le prétendent puisque nos compatriotes ont le fâcheux privilège des appréciations désobligeantes sur les choses et sur les gens de ce pays. J’ai toujours espéré que ces entrepreneurs de découragement étaient dans le faux, et je le crois fermement depuis que j’ai vu à l’œuvre nous troupes coloniales et les hommes d’action qui marchent avec elles...” En Galliéni, Grosclaude a vu un homme, un vrai ! avec du sang dans les veines, un de ceux qui peuvent rivaliser avec les orgueilleux Livingstone, Stanley, Cecil Rhodes et autres Anglo-Saxons. Il a écrit pour "Le Journal des Voayges". En 1883, il est nomm& secrétaire d'état pour le développement de l'économie en Guyane Française. En 1886, avec deux "pseudo-explorateurs", il devient président de la République de Counani (territoire brésilien en Amazonie). Après avoir compris l'escroquerie et de retour en France, il meurt en 1891. Très intéressant voyage à travers le monde où les nombreuses aventures sont présentes. Bords papier élimé, bon état d'ensemble.

Reliure en demi veau marbré fauve moderne à petits coins. Le dos est un pastiche adroit et confondant de la reliure d'origine. Les plats sont d'époque, sans changement. Dos lisse orné de roulettes. Titre doré. Plats et coins frottés. La carte est détachée. Les 2 planches simples sont plus courtes en marge externe. Bel exemplaire. Juste après la Campagne d'Egypte de Bonaparte, Grobert fut placé commandant à Guizé. Il nous livre une des premières descriptions occidentales des pyramides avec des détails très fins et des mesures, ainsi que leurs histoires.
