THIS COPY FORMED PART OF THE BRACKENBURY BEQUEST TO THE STAFF COLLEGE, CAMBERLEY. It bears the fine engraved armorial Brackenbury bookplate on front paste-down, the Camberley stamp (cancelled) together with several date stamps on half-title, and 'not to be retained' label on front board. Published in the official series 'History of the Great War', based on official documents by direction of the historical section of the Committee of Imperial Defence. This first (of two) volumes covers the commands of Maxwell and Murray, and deals with the defence of Suez, the advance across Sinai into Southern Palestine and First and Second Gaza. It also includes the campaign against the Senussi, minor operations in the Sudan and against the Sultan of Darfur, and the outbreak of the Arab Revolt (aided by Lawrence). Co-compiler Cyril Falls is the author of the standard WWI bibliography 'War Books' (1930). The separate portfolio of maps is not present with this copy. Scarce in this original edition.
