‎CHRISTOPHER COLOMBUS, (1451-1506).‎

‎[A FINE BOOK OF COLOMBUS VOYAGE HOAX] My secrete log boke: S.A.S.X. MY XPO FERENS [Supples servus altissimi Salvatoris Xristi Mariae Josephi Xpoferens 'Christoferens'].‎

‎Very Good English, Middle (1100-1500) Original imitation vellum. An OCLC register says "decorated with small shells and seaweed pasted on". Chipped on extremities and spine, slight pouring on paper; several tapes used at the link of the pages to binding. Otherwise a good copy. Small 4to. (27 x 18 cm). In Middle English (15th century). The first leaf attached to front cover. At end, 6 blank leaves. [46] p. with [7] blank pages, many illustrations, 1 letter with its broken seal. Separately, a facsimile of a letter from Isabella (Dona Isabel por Gracia de Dios Reina de Castilla y Leon etc. etc. A Don Cristobal Colon de Genova) to Columbus, dated 'Granada a? trece de Abril de MCCCCXCII,' with a broken seal attached. Script on vellum as well. Two registers in OCLC (1029665801 and 60764823 -This one is New York Edition-). 'Düsseldorf Edition' says "A spurious work purporting to be the logbook of Christopher Columbus, which, according to legend, he threw into the sea during a storm, and which was found on the coast of Pembrokeshire 400 years later. Written in antiquated English, with paper and binding made to imitate in color and appearance a volume damaged by exposure to seawater. "S.A.S.X. MY XPO FERENS" from cover, variously interpreted, eg. Supples servus altissimi Salvatoris Xristi Mariae Josephi Xpoferens. Forgery attributed to Karl Maria Seyppel. Printed by lithographic process on imitation parchment paper. Text and illustrations printed to appear handwritten, with many decorated initials. Accompanied by: reproduction of a letter purported to be by the finder of the logbook dated "September forth 1890"; "Don~a Isabel por gracia de Dios Reina do Castilla y Leon, etc., etc. a? Don Cristo?bal Colon de Ge?nova," supposed letter on imitation parchment, authorizing his voyage, dated "Granada, a? trece de abril de mccccxcij," with an attached seal, laid in.". This is a fine hoax on Colombus' first travel into America. It includes a map containing Cuba, San Salvador, and unknown areas with a hand drawing of Columbus as well as other illustrations and decorative borders, etc. This Edition may be printed in memory of the 400th year of '1492'. "Columbus's log of the first voyage has not survived, although we do have an abstract of it, written in the 1530s by Bartolome de las Casas. However, that actually used the "Barcelona Copy" of Columbus's original log. The chart above shows the sources that exist today in green, and sources that have disappeared in red. The chart also shows where secondary souses got their original information. When he returned to Spain in 1493, Columbus gave his original log to the Sovereigns at the royal court in Barcelona. Queen Isabela ordered the log to be copied, resulting in the so-called Barcelona Copy. The original has not been seen since, however, the Barcelona Copy was returned to Columbus just before his second voyage later that year, and remained in his possession until his death in 1506. It then passed into the hands of son Fernando, who used it when he wrote a biography of Columbus in 1538. The Barcelona Copy too was lost sometime after 1554. Sometime around 1530, the Barcelona Copy was abstracted by Las Casas into the Diario. This abstract as part of his research that led to his massive work, the Historia de las Indias. So The Diario remains our best historical record of the first voyage of Columbus. On the westward passage, Columbus kept two sets of distance figures in the log. According to Las Casas, this was done to allay the fears of the crew that they had sailed too far from Spain. The abstract is mostly written in the third person, but there are a number of large direct quotes from the log written in Columbus's own first-person.". ‎EMIN ONAT, (Turkish architect of 'Anitkabir' [i.e. Mausoleum]), (1908-1961).‎

‎Typescript letter signed 'Emin Onat', sent to the Dean Architectural Department Ccolumbia University, NY, US.‎

‎Very Good English Original typescript letter (TLS) signed by Emin Onat, sent to the Dean Architectural Department Columbia University, NY, US, with the letter's first draft including Onat's autograph corrections on the paper. 30x20 cm. Written in a tissue paper. 1+1 pp. Text in entirely English. The letter signed under the title 'O. Prof. Architect Dean of the Architectural Faculty of the Technical University, Ist., Turkey' by Onat. 20 lines. Text: "Allow me to introduce the bearer of this letter, architect Dr. Mukbil A. Gökdogan Professor of Architectural construction in our Faculty. He has been selected by the council of our Faculty, to work in the united nation's buildings and also to study, while in your country, the problems of housing and the methods of prefabrications. Visits to your institutes of constructions and architectural education would also be of great interest to the Dr. I wish to thank you in anticipation for all the valuable help and many suggestions which I am sure you will offer Prof. Gökdogan. Would you please give your teaching staff the sincere compliments of their colleagues in this university. With my kindest regards. Sincerely yours...". was a Turkish architect and former rector of Istanbul Technical University. Onat was born in Istanbul in 1908. He entered Istanbul Technical University in 1926. Then, he was sent to Zurich Technical University. Onat was one of the architects of Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. His architectural style was formed at ETH. Emin Onat learned to experiment, interpret, and search for modernism from his teacher Otto R. Salvisberg, a well-known, experienced practicing architect. Despite getting under the Anitkabir's shadow, he has a unique architectural style. Onat's architectural talent blossomed at Zurich Technical University, where one of his fellow students was Otto Rudolf Salvisberg, who later went to become one of the best architects of his time. Onat completed his studies in Zurich and returned to Turkey in 1934. Within a year, he had become an assistant professor in the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering. He held the post for a couple of years that were marked by strenuous relations with the other members of the faculty, owing to the novel methods of teaching Onat introduced. In 1944 Onat became the first dean of the newly established Faculty of Architecture at the Istanbul Technical University. Anitkabir's design refers to antique mausoleums, so it causes a lot of discussions. The most significant and important characteristic of Anitkabir is that compatible with Rasartepe's topography. It has a horizontal silhouette. It has two perpendicular axes and it opens to the city from 4 ways. It has a bond with the city and this bond makes a design unique for a place, but the monumental look of it distinguishes Anitkabir from the city. Monumantalizing the design makes it a conceptual object. Anitkabir visualizes its symbolism even in its ornaments.‎

Under these circumstances, Süleyman Kaslioglu offered to keep the Torah and other Hebrew books he received from clergy and citizens in the Murad Reis Mosque. But most of the Jews were taken to the concentration camp. Of the 1673 Jews who went to Rhodes from the concentration camp, only 151 were able to return. Ownership inscription on the first free paper. Slight foxing on boards, spine, and pages. One plan in the end pocket was repaired. Overall a good copy. Rare second edition of this "memorandum" translated into Ottoman Turkish by Mahmud Sevket Pasha, is one of the works of Baron von der Goltz (Pasha) who was invited by Sultan Abdulhamid II upon the request of Germany to modernize the Ottoman army after the defeat in the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). In the first years of modernization in the Ottoman army, the army was attempted to be compared to Napoleon's army, and its regulations were translated and organized accordingly. Many regulations, memoranda, and "layihas" were translated from French. However, when the Germans defeated the French in 1871, the German military system was regarded as superior, and from 1882 onwards, German advisers began to be recruited for the improvement of the army. Since the arrival of Major Goltz in 1883, German training guides and some German instructions were translated into Turkish for use in military schools. One of the most important instructions translated into Turkish was this book includes the basic military issues with many military plans. Goltz Pasha was a Prussian Field Marshal and military writer who had been in service of the Ottoman Empire two times soon after the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-78 and during the WW1 (1915-16) to reorganize the Ottoman Army.
